Choose an experienced air conditioning installer
Choosing the right team to install your air conditioning system is crucial because there’s a lot to know about the different makes and models. This kind of knowledge usually comes from hands-on experience in the field.
So, how do you find out if your installer has the experience you’re looking for? You could simply ask them. Most reputable companies will also highlight their team’s experience on their website.
Take us at Tri-Tech, for example: we’ve been around more than 30 years, and our directors each have more than 35 years of experience. This long track record gives us the confidence to provide the right air conditioning solutions for our customers. We’re proud of our team’s expertise, evolving just as the technology has. We believe it’s a big reason why we can deliver quality service.
Are they licensed and registered?
Like any other trade, air conditioning installation isn’t a job you can turn up to and start doing the next day.
To become an air conditioner installer, applicants need to obtain a Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration as well as a Refrigerant Handling License.
Businesses need to also be registered and licensed with various bodies to ensure compliance and honour workmanship guarantees and insurance, etc.
Air conditioning installers in Queensland are required to register with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).
These pieces of paper don’t just tell you that your air conditioning technician knows their stuff. Applicants are required to:
- Provide written references
- Possess a minimum level of experience
- Offer evidence of technical qualifications
A QBCC license guarantees all of these things, and is proof that your air conditioning specialist can safely and competently look after your needs.
They should also be registered with the Australian Refrigeration Council, or ARC. ARC is Australia’s peak body for the refrigeration and aircon industry, providing leadership and knowledge to the industry. They also administer refrigeration handling licences to professionals in the industry.
Does your air conditioning installer have professional paperwork?
While this one isn’t necessarily proof of high quality, it’s definitely a sign that your air conditioning operator is running a serious business, and not a fly-by-night, cash in hand operation.
You should expect:
- Detailed quotes
- Full disclosure regarding expenses and charges
- Further information regarding the product and installation
A paper (or digital!) trail tells you that your air conditioning installer is willing to commit to and deliver their promise.
Moreover, getting everything in writing can provide clarity and an extra layer of security if things don’t go as planned.
The relationship between you and your air conditioning specialist doesn’t end once installation is complete.
Like any highly-complex piece of machinery, your air con requires ongoing maintenance to prolong its life and stay in top working order.
When deciding whether or not to stick with your current HVAC team for ongoing support, ask them what type of post-sale service they offer.
Does your tech follow-up to make sure everything’s working as intended?
How quickly do they respond to warranty issues?
Can they attend to yearly check-ups to ensure your system is efficiently working at its best?
